Dear Friends of the American Constitution :-),

I am pleased as punch to see such strong efforts to dump the man who's dumped on us - Kenneth "Judge?excuse me???" Starr. I, too, have sent e-mail to Janet Reno but with a lot of skepticism that more than the Subject heading was read by anyone at all. My reasoning: a couple of weeks ago I collected the e-mail addresses of every US Senator. I got back auto-responses from half of them - almost ALL were interested only in those who could or would vote for them. Jesse Helms did send back his position he's voting to get rid of Clinton - what else is new? A couple are waiting to decide until later - great. But many, many claimed the lack of technical ability to deal with e-mail, most all requested local US addresses to respond by snail mail to. The House of Reps rarely had e-mail addresses to write to in the first place.

As much as I love the convenience of being able to send e-mail to the government, let's face it: with no proof of signatures and constituent legal addresses, either side can swamp government staff on computers ill-equipped to handle thousands to millions of e-mail messages which can be copied and sent hundreds of times by anyone changing their screen names dozens of times. It's not fair - but it's reality. Sigh :-(. And we know full well how much the rightwingers ("liar, liar, pants on fire") love to send hate mail. It's not the best for us to stoop to some of their ways and means.

So I've been brainstorming how to generate concrete proof of the rage over Starr's most probable treasonous actions by promoting real official postal mail to the sources driving us nuts. The Net works for retrieving vital information of who stands on what position and generating public awareness and that remains FABULOUS! Promoting here the ACPWC Petition with real voter signatures and real mailing is also FABULOUS! Maybe we need to simultanously generate a petition to expose, investigate, impeach and/or remove Starr and turn over his idiotic Report.

Meanwhile, we need to hook in with national organizations long established in promoting our common sense perspectives through the normal political channels actually listened to at times. I believe that the Democratic National Committee, the ACLU ACLU and feminist organizations Feminist Organizations automatically support our basic causes. Though I sent the ACLU and NOW my letter calling for the investigation of Starr, I personally don't have the time, energy nor money (in Germany online time is ridiculously expensive) to pursue the means I'm suggesting. I also have a debilitating illness slowing me down and I got so passionately into this whole thing feeling strongly that the Patients' Bill of Rights is seriously threatened by the Repugnants through all of this garbage.

Still, when my pain isn't so strong as it is now, I will send e-mail on "How and Where to Write Effective Protest Mail" to Clinton supporters. We ARE already making a difference and we WILL prevail! The Constitution and the Bill of Rights won't go down that easily and never have :-). Keep listening to Bill on "doing the right thing". He's pretty darn encouraging and positive for a man who's going through what he's still going through. I strongly suspect we'll continue to see a rise in his job approval rating because of it.

Closing with AOL news articles regarding both sides of "hit lists" to consider writing. I feel relieved and honored to be corresponding with those feeling so strongly as I do about these matters. THANK YOU!

Eva

''Sexual McCarthyism'' If Clinton Ousted - Feminists

By Deborah Zabarenko

WASHINGTON (Sept. 24) - American feminists warned Thursday that forcing President Clinton from office could usher in an era of ''sexual McCarthyism'' which would turn back the clock on women's rights.

Representatives of leading feminist groups called on women to get out the vote in November's elections to put lawmakers who favor women's rights in Congress.

''We are here today to sound the alarm that if disgust with the current crisis depresses women's votes in November, we will see an anti-women's rights majority in Congress roll back the gains for women of the past 30 years,'' they said in a statement.

While deploring Clinton's conduct in the Monica Lewinsky affair, the feminists said they did not consider it impeachable and decried what they called ''a relentless campaign -- both inside and outside the government -- to hound President Clinton from office.''

Feminists have been criticized since the scandal broke last January on their seeming reluctance to withdraw their support for Clinton in this case. Patricia Ireland, the president of the National Organization for Women, noted this criticism at a news conference where the feminists' statement was presented.

''For months, pundits and opponents of women's rights have been asking, 'Where are the feminists on the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal?''' Ireland said. ''Today, flanked by prominent women leaders, I ask, 'Where is Congress on our issues?'''

In a statement signed by Ireland, pioneer women's rights advocate Betty Friedan, Eleanor Smeal of the Feminist Majority and others, the feminists said that if Clinton is ousted and political conservatives prevail in Congress after November's elections, women's issues including pay equity, child care, anti-poverty remedies, Social Security and campaign finance reform ''will continue to languish.''

Friedan, one of the founders of the modern American feminist movement, warned against a coming ''era of sexual McCarthyism,'' a reference to the anti-Communist inquisitions led by Wisconsin Sen. Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s.

''I have thought for some time that sex is going to take the place of the Cold War,'' Friedan said. ''It does not serve women to try to hound this president out of office...it does not serve women to focus so much attention even on sexual content while the real obscenities are poverty and violence.''

The feminists blamed House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Georgia Republican, for blocking legislation they favored, including abortion rights proposals, family planning and measures to counteract violence against women.

But they said the Clinton administration's record had not been perfect and added the White House had no hand in the feminist statement.

Among those groups whose representatives signed the statement were: National Council of Negro Women, United Farm Workers, Black Women United for Action and the National Women's Political Caucus.
