I have some new information regarding the rally in LA on Sunday, October 18th (this coming Sunday) to kick off the cross country bus trip ending in Washington, DC for the October 24th rally. The rally will be held at the Federal Building, West LA (405 FWY and Wilshire Blvd@11000 Wilshire near the VA and UCLA). It will be at noon. This is a rally that is supporting the president, getting out the need for everyone to vote, and calling for the impeachment inquiry to stop. This is not a protest, however. Only signs with wood stakes 1/4" or less in thickness and 2" or less in width can be used. There will be media coverage, and KABC radio is promoting this rally.

Regarding the bus ride. This is the itinerary, as sent by Sue from Truth in America.

Oct. 18th - LA to Flagstaff, AZ
Oct. 19th - Flagstaff to Albuquerque to Amarillo, TX
Oct. 20th - Amarillo to Springfield
Oct. 21st - Springfield to St. Louis to Indianapolis
Oct. 22nd- Indianapolis to Pittsburg
Oct. 23rd- Pittsburg to DC

They are still looking for people to ride the bus across the country. If you are interested in going, please E-mail SuelyA@aol.com. The way back is really up to everyone individually, although the bus is coming back some are electing to fly home. The price for the bus ride is about $250 per person. This includes hotel. From what I have also been told, you will also need to plan on money for food and of course, plane fare back should you be flying home. Sue says that those on the list to go get the "first shot at the seats" so for those who would like to go, make sure you E-mail SuelyA@aol.com soon! Thank you to the members who supplied this information and to Sue at Truth in America!

Many of you have been writing me concerning the letters ("form" letters) you are receiving from your Congressional representatives. I know that we all were rather outraged at the form letter from Senator John Ashcroft (one which I wrote a very spicy reply too, as I'm sure we all did!). It seems that we have yet another representative entertaining her own opinion in a very detailed form letter, sent to everyone regardless the constituent's views on the topic. This time it is from Representative Linda Smith from Washington. She kindly included her web page address for all of you who would like to visit it! Here's what Rep. Smith has to say:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the conduct of President Clinton
and the allegations of felonies committed, including perjury before the
Grand Jury and other forms of obstruction of justice. Due to the
overwhelming response I have received in my e-mail box, I have decided
to respond on this issue through the Internet. I appreciate your
comments on this serious matter.

When I was first elected to Congress four years ago, I never imagined I
would sit in my congressional office and read a report that detailed
impeachable offenses against the President.
Based on the list of impeachable offenses credibly charged in the report
of the Independent Counsel, it seems clear that the House of
Representatives is constitutionally obligated to begin hearings and the
inquiry into impeachment. Of 435 Members of Congress, 429 voted in
favor of an inquiry, with only procedural differences between two
proposed resolutions. The inquiry does not remove the President, but
begins the process of ascertaining whether impeachable offenses have
been committed. The House of Representatives next votes on articles of
impeachment which could be sent to the Senate for a trial and vote on
possible removal. As you are aware, the report submitted to Congress
presents credible evidence that the President committed felonies
including perjury and obstruction of justice. Perjury itself is a
serious form of obstruction of justice because it can shield criminal
acts from the public.

I want you to know that I have asked President Clinton to resign. He
could save the nation the spectacle of hearings and impeachment
proceedings. He could allow our nation to address important problems
such as saving Social Security and empowering local school districts and
parents to improve the education of our children. If the President
refuses to resign then Congress must proceed in a deliberate and fair
manner that meets constitutional requirements.

I strongly believe that all relevant information should be made
available to the public as soon as possible, including posting material
on the Internet. In the 2-3 days following release of the Independent
Counsel's report to Congress, the web server for the House of
Representatives received over 10 million visitors, a volume of traffic
normally reached over a full month. It is clear that the public
understands the significance of the President's conduct and wants direct
access to information so they can make their own decisions. I would
caution parents, however, that due to the subject matter involving the
charges of perjury much of the material in the report is not suitable
for children.

As a mother and grandmother, I urge the President to heal the damage his
conduct and example may have on women's advances in the workplace. My
fear is that, in the name of politics and ideology, some might be
tempted to turn a blind eye to unacceptable behavior from the President.
We do not accept this behavior from military officers or corporate
leaders. We risk lowering the standard of trust and respect if we shrug
off his conduct as "private."

The President should know the deep wounds he has caused and will allow
to fester by staying in office. When he commented on Richard M. Nixon
in 1974, he said, "I think it's plain that the president should resign
and spare the country the agony of this impeachment and removal
proceeding. I think the country could be spared a lot of agony if he'd
go on and resign."

I agree. The business of the nation outweighs the occupancy of his
office, and the gravity of the law requires that consequences be equally
applied despite power, prestige or perceived performance.

Again, thank you for contacting me and providing me with this
opportunity to respond.

Sincerely,

Linda Smith
Member of Congress

As many members have been stressing to me, it is very important to contact your elected officials prior to November 3rd, and ask them their opinions on this matter. It's important to know how they feel about this issue, if this is a central concern of yours in regards to your vote, prior to voting for someone. What we need to remember is that if Congress remains unchanged past this election, we are running a very large risk of this kind of partisan politics continuing. Especially when we are in a situation where someone stepped on majority toes. The witch hunts will not end, and President Clinton will almost surely be the subject of future investigations, and once he is out of office, Al Gore will be the next subject. Down the line until the office of president is in the hands of Newt. It should be no surprise that so many women and womens' groups are standing behind President Clinton.

More news for you, more articles send to me from our members:

Well, it took NBC long enough to catch on to information that was made public through magazines like Salon all through this mess. Finally NBC has released an article concerning Ken Starr's legal implications to Paula Jones prior to becoming Independant Counsel. Read all about it:
Report: Starr advised Jones lawyers before tenure as independent counsel

Read the story written last month (possibly mentioned even earlier by Salon):
Salon Newsreal | The Salon Report on Kenneth Starr

The New York Observer - Another article regarding the "Clinton Crisis." To find the article, please enter the word "Impeachment" in the search form on the homepage. Once you get the results, look for the article, "Impeachment Zealots have Plenty to Hide," 10/12/98.

For those of you with petitions, please use this PO Box address when mailing the petition and the signatures back to me or just for snail mail correspondence:

		PO Box 165
		1119 South Mission Rd.
		Fallbrook, CA 92028

I am going to begin snail mailing the petitions to all of the elected officials relevant to our cause, in the beginning of next week. I am still waiting for more petitions to return. For those of you who would like a petition sent to you, for collecting signatures in your community or among your friends, please E-mail me with your request and the way you would like the petition to be sent to you. I can send it via snail mail, E-mail, and fax. Don't forget to tell everyone you can about the online petition also. I am hoping to bombard the elected officials with our signatures, and so far we have over 700 on the online petition (including silent signatures). This number is still growing, keep up the good work!!

Welcome to all of our new members! Please visit the ACPWC homepage at this link:

 ACPWC Homepage

If you have any questions regarding our group, please E-mail me at ACPWC@aol.com.

Please don't forget that although the election is coming up, we may still have a battle when the election is over. I will still have the petition up online and will be encouraging those of you with petitions to continue to collect signatures. It's important that the new Congressional Representatives know how we feel also. I plan on fighting this until it is over, and the president is allowed to complete his natural term. Until we can finally have a government concerned with the real issues facing us as the citizens they serve, and not the issues that Ken Starr deems important. I hope that you all will continue this grand effort until the end!

For those of you who would like to receive mail from other members of the group, please E-mail me with the subject "mass E-mails." Your name will be put on a list and made accessible to those members who E-mail information to others regarding these issues.

Those of you in the San Diego area, especially North County, who would like to help me out here, please E-mail me.

I hope to talk to many of you tomorrow night (Thursday night). Keep up the wonderful work!!

Sincerely,
Amanda E. Sztaba
