Hazardous Materials - UFFI

Urea Formaldehyde Foam Insulation (UFFI) was generally installed in existing homes (less frequently in new construction) during the 1970's. For example, Massachusetts banned the installation of UFFI in November, 1979. Removal of UFFI is not required by law in Massachusetts. However, sellers, landlords, real estate licensees, and mortgage lenders can be held liable for damage to a person's health resulting from exposure to UFFI if they fail to make the required disclosures before April 1st, 2003. However, the recent law had changed again, and had cancelled above requirement starting from April 1, 2003. For interested parties, you have to confirm the information on your own with your attorneys.
